Trelleborg is the largest ferry port in Scandinavia and an important industrial center. There is also the only reconstruction of the Viking stronghold in Sweden.
The beginnings of the city are related to the Viking settlement and a large trading center that operated here. However, it did not receive city rights until the mid-thirteenth century. Due to its location and strategic importance, Trelleborg often passed from Swedish to Danish hands and back. Subsequent invasions and wars meant that there are not many monuments here.
Today, Trelleborg's greatest attraction is the reconstruction of a Viking settlement from the 10th-11th centuries. It is a circle surrounded by earth and wooden fortifications, with reconstructed huts and craft workshops.
The city's entertainment life is centered around the port. There are numerous bars, restaurants and clubs. An interesting fact is the entrance avenue to the city from the west, planted with palm trees.
