Celje is a historic town with many medieval and Renaissance buildings preserved. Its decoration is a gothic castle standing on a hill and a picturesque old town with a promenade.

Celje is considered one of the most beautiful Slovenian cities for a reason. Its buildings mix Austrian and Italian influences, and the history of the center dates back to Roman times. The period of the greatest prosperity of the city fell from the 14th to the 15th century, when the counts of Celje resided here. Their seat, the Cilean Castle, is currently one of the greatest attractions of Celje. It stands on a hill in the suburbs of the city and offers a beautiful view of the surrounding area.

The city has a very good condition, the old town and the remains of fortifications with the medieval water tower, the Franciscan monastery where the counts of Celje were buried, and the baroque cathedral of St. Daniel. While visiting Celje, you can also see the Lower Castle, the town's seat of the count, the renaissance palace of the Thurn-Valsassina family, which is the seat of the Regional Museum, and the beautiful Art Nouveau Cylon House. The Old Town Hall houses the Museum of Recent History.
