Santana is one of the most attractive places in Madeira. It is famous for picturesque, traditional, triangular thatched houses painted in blue and red patterns. There are also starting points for well-known hiking trails, leading, among others, to on Pico Ruivo.

The town and its surroundings are the largest center of handicrafts and traditional culture in Madeira. The most important attractions of Santana include the Madeira Theme Park, where you can learn about the old activities of the local population, architecture and equipment of houses and farms.

The hallmark of Santana are triangular traditional houses. They were built in this area as early as the 16th century, and many of them are still inhabited. Some are rented and you can stay overnight in the area.

The surroundings of Santana are extremely picturesque. There is no shortage of spectacular mountains with wide views and natural laurel forests that have been entered on the UNESCO list. Pico Ruivo, 1,862 m above sea level, is a frequent destination for hiking tours. The peak can be reached via the PR1.2 trail Pico Ruivo, which is quite demanding in terms of condition. There are also shorter routes that are suitable even for beginner hikers.
