Museum of the Earth - Pniewski Willa

Local name: Muzeum Ziemi - Willa Pniewskiego

Located inside: Museum of the Earth

Willa Pniewskiego, now part of the Museum of the Land of the Polish Academy of Sciences, is one of the most famous Polish architects of the first half of the 20th century. Bohdan Pniewski became famous for creating an unusually original style, which can be seen in the construction of the villa. Even today his work would be considered modernist, and it should be borne in mind that he created it during the war.

The villa was once the home of Pniewski. After his exile from the villa, the building often changed owners. It was a particularly turbulent time for the inhabitants of Warsaw and the villa itself carries the traces of war - literally. On one of the stairway plates a blood stain was found, which - as was later proven - belongs to one of the insurgents.

Before the villa was bought by the Museum of the Land of the Polish Academy of Sciences, she returned to her creator and original owner, Bohdan Pniewski. It was only after his death that he found himself under the management of the museum to teach the next generations about the war.
