The Ethnographic Museum of Kraków presents the oldest and largest collection of items related to the ethnography in Poland. It gathered over 80 thousand monuments. Apart from monuments related to Polish folklore, handicraft, architecture, folk art, and craft, the museum's collection also consists of unique collections from other countries and cultures (not only European).
The Ethnographic Museum of Kraków was established in 1911 on the initiative of Seweryn Udziela, a teacher, ethnographer-amateur, and collector. He was the first director of the facility and also a donator who gifted the museum about 2 thousand items from the areas of former West Galicia. The monuments can be viewed at the permanent and temporary exhibitions. The museum also operates as an education and science facility, and a publishing house. Each collection is opened to the public for research purposes (also on the Internet).Less
