Pauline Church "Skałka"

Local name: Kościół Na Skałce

Church of St Michael the Archangel and St Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr, commonly known as Pauline Church "Skałka" is a church and monastery of Kraków's Pauline Fathers. It is a three-nave Baroque church which was built in the year between 1731-1752. Especially worthy of attention is the monumental main altar with the painting by Tadeusz Kuntz depicting Michael the Archangel fighting Lucifer, and the gorgeous pulpit by Wojciech Rojowski which is supported by the depictions of the four evangelists. The side naves consist of chapels designed by Antonio Solari which design refers to the history of the church and Pauline Fathers.

According to the legend, the church stands in the place where Saint Stanislaus of Szczepanów, the Bishop of Kraków and one of the patrons of Poland, was killed by Bolesław II the Generous. His remains rest in the Wawel Cathedral since 1089 but "Skałka" is a place of his worship. The famous pond of Saint Stanislaus which, according to legends, heals eye and skin diseases, is located in the courtyard.
