Corpus Christi Basilica

Local name: Kościół Bożego Ciała

The beautiful, gothic basilica of the Lateran Regular Canons is a double Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Mary - Mother of the Savior and Saint. Stanisław Kazimierczyk. The object was entered in the register of monuments of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. Here you can admire and listen to the largest organs in Krakow. They were designed for 83 voices.

The basilica was founded by Casimir the Great in 1340, and its construction is associated with the legend, according to which the monstrance stolen from the church of All Saints together with the Blessed Sacrament was found in this place. The thieves abandoned their prey when they noticed that it was not made of precious metal. The successful recovery of the monstrance initiated the construction of a wooden temple, which was later converted into a stone one. Today, the interior of the church is a combination of raw Gothic architecture and Baroque splendor.

Next to the church is the monastery of Regular Lateran Canons, whom King Władysław Jagiełło brought to Kraków in the 15th century.
