Tempel Synagogue

Local name: Synagoga Tempel

The Tempel Synagogue, also called New, was built in the 1860s in Baroque style. It was designed by Ignacy Hercok for the Association of Progressive Israelites. It was entered in the register of the Program of the Jewish Heritage in Middle and East Europe. It consists of, among others, the white marble Torah ark, and 43 stained glasses depicting Moorish themes.

The interior includes seven memorial plaques in Polish and Hebrew languages. The synagogue operates as a cultural center. Concerts and meetings take place here during the Jewish Culture Festival.

Sermons were preached in Polish and German languages. Before World War II, rabbi Ozjasz Thon, who was a leader of Club of Jewish Members of Parliament, was appointed to the Tempel Synagogue.
