Exhibition of the village life in Poland

Local name: Wystawa życie na wsi polskiej

Located inside: Ethnographic Museum

Exhibition of the village life in Poland is part of the exposition titled "Polish fold culture" presented in the Kraków's Ethnographic Museum. It gives an opportunity to view interiors of old houses, workshops, forges, multicolored ceremonial folk costumes, and also ceremonial and magical items.

The major part of the collection comes from the 19th century. Monuments of folklore and craft, pieces of folk art, and archival photographs present the long gone Polish village. Visitors can learn about the everyday life of its inhabitants, their ceremonies, holidays, traditions, and magic.

Part of the exhibition divided into two periods - winter, related to Christmas and New Year's Eve, and spring including Easter - is dedicated to the ceremonial part of village life. It consists of the oldest Kraków's nativity scene (over a hundred years old) by Michał Ezenkier which is considered an archetype of modern nativity scenes.
