Utility Buildings

Local name: Budynki użytkowe

Located inside: Ethnographic Museum

The exhibition "Polish Folk Culture", presented in the Kraków's Ethnographical Museum, gives an opportunity to learn about utility buildings of the old village. It consists of two the most representative izbas in Lesser Poland - of Kraków and Podhale styles. Apart from that, the exhibition includes traditional village workshops. They are, among others, fulling machine from Jaworki, oil mill from Ochotnica Górka, pottery workshop with a rich collection of ceramics, the interior of a forge, or loom.

The Kraków and Podhale izbas were made according to the basic idea of an open-air museum. Walls and furnace with painted Zalipie's flowers and paintings depicting saints can be admired in the Kraków izba. It also consists of a model of the house of Błażej Czepiec, the participant of the wedding of Lucjan Rydel and Jadwiga Mikołajczykówka, made in 1901 under the direction of Włodzimierz Tetmajer. The second one presents traditional glass paintings, wooden herring-bone ceiling, and beam decorated with gorgeous rose window.
