Venlo is a city with a long history and several interesting museums. Its Old Town has been partially preserved despite the war damage and has a very friendly, pleasant atmosphere with many restaurants and bars. The thermal swimming pool is a big attraction in the area.
Today's Venlo is primarily a thriving industrial center. In the past, it was a large trade center, and despite its distance from the sea, it belonged to the Hanseatic League. A large part of the old town buildings was destroyed in 1944 during the fighting between the Allies and the Germans. The partially rebuilt Old Town is today the most atmospheric part of Venlo.
The Old Town stretches around the square, the most important building of which is the Renaissance town hall Venlo. There are picturesque tenement houses around, and a large part of the square is lined with restaurant gardens. The Church of Sts. Can be proud of its long history and valuable monuments. Martin, whose origins date back to the 10th century. Outside the city center, there is the Arcen Castle, now converted into a hotel, around which you can admire the Arcen Castle Gardens.
The most famous museum in Venlo is the Limburg Museum. It allows you to get to know the history and culture of the entire region, from prehistoric times to today. The van Bommel van Dam Museum, in turn, collects works of art by contemporary artists and organizes temporary exhibitions in collaboration with several institutions from Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. The Wasrola DVD Museum has an unconventional collection, which deals with the history of photographic and film devices used both for recording and reproducing images.
The Arcen Thermal Baths located in the vicinity of the Arcen Castle are a great attraction in the area. They have a wide range of treatments and several pools with water attractions for children and adults.
