Museum Willet-Holthuysen
Local name: Museum Willet-Holthuysen
The museum facility presents a rich exhibition of paintings, mainly Dutch painters. The collection comes from the private collection of art patrons, Louisa Holthuysen and Abraham Willet, which has been systematically expanded with new exhibits.
The museum is located in a three-story building with a garden. In one of the rooms there are portraits of the previous owners of the building and several paintings by Jacob de Wit, a Dutch painter specializing in painting religious scenes. The museum also has paintings by another Dutch artist, painter Adriana Johanna Haanen.
The facility was built for Jacob Hop, the mayor of Amsterdam, around 1685. The house was inhabited by successive politicians, and around 1739 its external appearance was arranged at the then fashionable style of Louis XIV. In 1895, the then owner, Louisa Holthuysen, gave the building along with artistically rich furnishings to the city of Amsterdam.
