Polignano a Mare is a seaside town and resort known for its gravelly cove at the foot of the cliffs. This place is one of the most photographed places in Apulia.
The city is divided into a modern recreation area and an old town with stone buildings, charming squares, cobbled streets and many decorative details that create its unique atmosphere.
The biggest attraction and showcase of Polignano a Mare is the Lama Monachile Cala Porto beach located at the mouth of the gorge that crosses the city. It is located in a bay sheltered by cliffs, with the buildings of the town above it. It is small, covered with gravel and very crowded in high season. It is one of the most photogenic places in the city and is eagerly chosen for photo sessions. From the beach, you can also see the second landmark of Polignano a Mare, the Polignano Bridge, which spans the ravine and connects the two parts of the town.
The seaside part of Polignano a Mare also has a promenade with a statue of Domenico Modura, performer of the famous Italian song, Volare. There are also other small, mostly pebble beaches in the area, squeezed into small coves under the cliffs. One of them is Cala Fetente.
