CERVIA tourist attractions

Cervia is a famous seaside resort with sandy beaches and very good facilities for water sports and active tourism. It also has a historic center and a long tradition of sea salt production.

Sea salt has been produced by evaporation in the vicinity of Cervi since ancient times. At the same time, due to its location, the city was razed to the ground several times by invasions. It also changed its location. The first relocation took place in the 8th century, when, for fear of attacks, it was built anew between the salt marshes from which salt was extracted. This place, while good from a defense point of view, turned out to be disastrous for the health of the inhabitants. Therefore, in 1697 it was decided to rebuild Cervi by the sea. The former street grid and buildings have been recreated so that the buildings look older than they really are.

The city center has narrow, winding streets and small squares, such as Salinari Square, which is reminiscent of the salt-making tradition. There is also the MUSA Salt Museum in Cervia, which shows how this precious mineral was obtained in the past.

Currently, Cervia consists of two parts, the historic, picturesque center and a lively leisure area with hotels, bars and clubs. It is adjacent to the sandy, wide beach where you can rent recreational and swimming equipment. Cervia's attractions also include the Cervia Thermal Baths, the Butterfly House and the Cervia Natural Park, which is located in the vicinity of the city.
