Carini is a small town located a few kilometers from the coast. It is connected with the tourist village of Villarazia di Carini, where there are sand and shingle, well-developed beaches.
The town has ancient roots. It was then called Hyccarum, and in the 3rd century AD it became the capital of the diocese. Like all of Sicily, Carini was under Arab rule for several centuries. It was them who built the first castle here, which was extended by the Normans. Today it is one of the most attractive for tourists fortresses in this part of the island.
The center of Carini has a historic character. Here you can see numerous churches built between the 15th and 18th centuries. They are hidden in narrow streets, densely built-up with multi-storey houses. There are plenty of restaurants and bars here, and the entire area is famous for its excellent cuisine.
The big attraction of Carini is the Sicily Biopark, a zoo that displays animals from the island and the Mediterranean region. It has the form of a living museum where you can learn about individual animal habitats and find information about nature protection. The local zoo and the neighboring Ville Giulia garden are also very popular. Carini is also home to Zona Insdustriala, the largest shopping and entertainment complex in Sicily.
