Built in the 12th century, the cathedral, inscribed with other Romanesque and Arabic monuments of Sicily on the UNESCO list. Its shape carries Romanesque and early Gothic features, while the decorations mix with Arabic and Byzantine influences. The interior is covered with marble cladding in the lower part, and in the upper - gilded mosaics made by masters from Constantinople. Arabic, geometric decorations are visible, among others on entrance portals. The cloister adjoins the cathedral, which is the only remnant of the Benedictine monastery.
