Palatine Chapel

Local name: Cappella Palatina

Palace Chapel being part of the Norman Palace on the UNESCO list. It was built in the mid-twelfth century after the coronation of King Roger II as King of Sicily. Its three-nave interior covered with domes is covered with Byzantine mosaics depicting Christ, the Virgin Mary and the saints. On the ceiling made of cedar wood, scenes from the everyday life of the inhabitants of Palermo were carved.
