Crypts located under the Capuchin monastery in Palermo and serving as one of the city's largest cemeteries. The first burials began here in the 16th century and initially only members of the order were buried. Later, lay funerals were also allowed. The Capuchins developed a process of mummification of corpses, thanks to which you can see here today about 8,000 mummies, mostly dressed and erected, laid or hung on the walls and vaults of the crypts.
