Hajdúszoboszló is the most famous of the Hungarian thermal spas. The bathing beach, which developed after World War II, was thoroughly modernized at the beginning of the 21st century, and now there is a huge Hungarospa swimming pool complex.
The spa is located in the Hortobágy region, in the vicinity of the UNESCO-listed Puszta called "Hungarian steppes." It is a good starting point to explore this uninhabited land, where cattle still graze in a traditional way and hajduk traditions are alive. Puszta shows are organized horse riding, carriage driving and nature trips.
The first thermal water borehole in Hajdúszoboszló was made in 1925. Since then, the development of the spa dates back to the end of World War II. At that time, all of Central and Eastern Europe came to Hajdúszoboszló, and the cities grew by building hotels in the form of socialist blocks.
The revival took place after 1990. The spa park was revitalized, new boarding houses appeared, an aquapark was built, and in the first decade of the 21st century the modern Hungarospa bathing beach, which is currently the main attraction of the town. You can take advantage of the spa and wellness treatments and pools at different temperatures. Some of them are arranged in artificial caves, in which the air is additionally saturated with iodine.
