Foinikas is a small, picturesque village in Crete, located near the Preveli Gorge and the beach at its outlet.
The town is not located by the sea, but the beaches are quite close if you have a means of transport. The most famous beach is Preveli, with a grove of palm trees. It is located at the mouth of the Preveli Gorge, the greatest attraction of Foinikas.
The Preveli gorge is cut deep into the land and is a popular destination for excursions. At its outlet to the sea, there is Lake Preveli with its shores overgrown with palm groves. This unusual vegetation appeared here thanks to nanosomes brought by the river. It is the only such place in Crete.
