Münster is a city full of monuments and interesting museums with over a thousand years of history. It is known as the place of signing the Peace of Westphalia ending the Thirty Years War, which is one of the most important documents in the history of the world.
In 793, Charlemagne founded a monastery and a monastery settlement in the place of today's city. Due to its convenient location on trade routes, it began to develop very quickly and received city rights in the 12th century. The greatest period of the city's splendor was from the 13th to the 18th centuries, in 1648 the Peace of Westphalia was signed here, which was the basis of the new order in Europe.
The most important monument of the city is the Romanesque-Gothic cathedral of St. Paul. It was built in the 13th century on the site of the first Baptistery in Münster. A popular attraction is the Zoo in Münster, which lives around 4,000 animals from around the world. The Botanical Garden is a good place for walks and rest from the city noise.
