Castle Nordkirchen
Local name: Schloss Nordkirchen
It is an eighteenth-century Baroque, waterside palace known as the Westphalian Versailles. Its architecture is based on Dutch designs. The castle houses the University of Finance North Rhine-Westphalia, and weddings take place in the palace chapel.
Visiting the palace, you can see, among others, the Jupiter ballroom and the high baroque chapel with decorative walls and ceiling and colorful paintings on the ceiling.
It was built in the years 1703-1734 on the site of an old castle that has been here since the 13th century. The palace is located on an island, is surrounded by a moat and a picturesque park with royal gardens, which have an area of about 170 hectares. It is a characteristic example of Baroque Westphalia buildings, mainly due to brick facades with sandstone elements.
