Flensburg is a North German port lying on the deeply cut bay sometimes called the Flensburg Fjord. Until 1920, the city belonged to Denmark and today is the most important center of Danish culture in Germany. His most important attractions are associated with maritime and port traditions.

The city from the beginning of its existence belonged together with the entire principality of Holstein and Schleswig to Denmark. There was an important port, protected by a deep bay, and shipyards. Flensburg was finally joined to Germany by a referendum.

The main street of the city is the promenade of Holm around which you can find historic tenements from different eras. At its end is Südermarkt, a market square, where groceries are traded twice a week to this day. The most important building of the old part of Flensburg is the Church of St. Nicholas with the late-Gothic tower and numerous works of art decorating the interior. The Norder Gate, which is a remnant of the city fortifications and the Church of the Holy Spirit, also draw attention.

Around the port of Flensburg there are several objects that approximate the past of the local port. These include the Flensburg Maritime Museum, Flensburg Shipyard Museum and Flensburg Port Museum. A modern Phänomenta science center has also been created in the area. Art lovers can admire works from the Middle Ages to the 19th century at the Museumsberg Flensburg, while exhibitions related to the city's surroundings are presented at the Natural History Museum.
