History Center Dybbøl Banke

Local name: Historiecenter Dybbøl Banke

The center was built in 1992. It is dedicated to the Danish War of 1864, also known as the Second Schleswig War, with particular reference to the Battle of Dybbøl on April 18, 1864. Numerous slides and themed films can be viewed here. Fragments of fortifications, excavation and military barracks were also reconstructed.

The entire area surrounding the museum is part of the Dybbøl Skanser National Park. There are several other monuments related to the Danish war on its premises. Among them is a commemorative stone dedicated to Louis Appia and Charles van de Velde, who were the first observers sent on behalf of the Red Cross.

As a curiosity, it can be mentioned that in the place where the center stands, there used to be the Düppel monument. It was a German victory monument erected in 1865. After the end of World War II, it was pulled down.
