Sønderborg Castle
Local name: Sønderborg Slot
The history of the castle dates back to the 11th century, but the building owes its renaissance appearance to the expansion in the years 1550-1570. Currently, its restored interiors house a museum devoted mainly to the history and culture of the region from the Middle Ages to the present day. The collections include collections of military, furniture, textiles, handicrafts and works of art.

Nowadays, it is used for special occasions, in 1998 it was the venue for the wedding of Queen Margaret II's niece.
The castle chapel, built in the 16th century for Queen Mother Dorota Saska, is considered one of the oldest and best-preserved Lutheran royal chapels in Europe. Some of the dungeons are also open to the public.
