Frøslev Camp

Local name: Frøslevlejren

The internment camp was built by the Germans in 1944. Currently, it houses a museum, where you can see the prisoner-of-war barracks and the lives of the camp prisoners both during and after World War II. The watchtower and part of the barbed wire fence, which had previously been dismantled, were also reconstructed.

The camp was built to avoid sending Danish prisoners to camps abroad. After the surrender of Germany in 1945, the prisoners were released and the camp was turned into a prison for Danes suspected of collaborating with the enemy during the war. In 1968-1975 it was used as a barracks for the Danish Civil Defense, and then served as a warehouse.

In 1969, the camp was transformed into a museum and a national memorial site.
