Biberach an der Riß is a historic town famous for its picturesque old town with half-timbered houses and markets that have been held since the Middle Ages.

Over the centuries, Biberach an der Riss had the status of a free city, and additionally, after the religious wars of the 16th century, it became one of the centers where, in accordance with the provisions of the Peace of Westphalia, joint Catholic-Protestant authorities were created.

The center of Biberach an der Riss has preserved its historic buildings, dominated by half-timbered houses with sloping roofs. Above them rises the tower of the Church of St. Martin. In the gothic building in the 17th century, baroque decorations in the form of polychrome and stucco were made. The furnishings of the church also have a baroque character.

The museums in Biberach an der Riss are also among the highlights. The Braith Mali Museum, located in one of the 16th-century burgher houses, houses exhibitions on history, archeology and natural history. The Wieland Museum, in turn, documents the life and work of the German poet Christoph Martin Wieland. He was the first to translate Shakespeare's works into German. There is also a building in Biberach where the first Shakespeare play in Germany, The Tempest, was staged in 1762.
