Bad Pyrmont is a spa and resort town located among the forests and hills of Lower Saxony. There is a thermal swimming pool here, and the surrounding area is ideal for walking trips.
The town already existed in the Middle Ages, and in the 16th century a castle surrounded by a bastion fortress was built here. Today a museum operates in it, which presents well-preserved interiors and interior design elements. There is also an exhibition dedicated to the history of the city and the spa.
There are not many monuments preserved outside the castle. The center is built up with houses and villas from the 19th and 20th centuries. The neo-Gothic Christ Church is also striking. The most-frequented part of the city is the Spa Park with a palm garden, which is one of the largest on the north side of the Alps. The park has a neoclassical pump room of mineral waters.
The biggest attraction of the village are the Hufeland thermal baths. It is a modern recreation and spa complex with pools for various purposes, water attractions, saunas and treatment facilities. The curiosity of the spa is Dunst Cave, in which healing carbon dioxide fumes are emitted.
The surroundings of Bad Pyrmont are perfect for active tourism. The low hills, covered with forests, are crossed by walking and cycling routes. Popular routes lead to two lookout towers, the Spelunken Tower and the Schellen Tower. Another attraction of the town is a mini zoo with animals from around the world.
