Cheverny is a village in the Loire Valley, which is known primarily for its castle surrounded by a vast park and the organization of traditional hunts with packs.
Cheverny Castle was built in the 17th century on the site of an earlier residence. The entire property has been in the hands of the same Hurault family for 600 years and is Cheverna's highlight. Despite numerous historical turbulences, especially the French Revolution, which damaged many palaces all over France, it has survived to this day with virtually no damage. Inside, you can see the original décor from the 17th and 18th centuries. Cheverny Castle was one of the first to be opened to the public in the Loire Valley and has been available to tourists for around 100 years.
In addition to Cheverny Castle, you can visit the extensive castle park. It consists of French gardens, which include, among others, Students' Garden and the landscape park. In addition to making the castle accessible, the owners conduct many activities to familiarize visitors with court life. Cheverny is famous e.g. from the organization of hunts with an attack. There is a kennel in which about 100 hunting dogs are bred.
The town of Cheverny has nice, traditional buildings, many restaurants and cafes, and is a base for tourist traffic concentrated in the castle. In its vicinity is also Troussay Castle, which is one of the smallest mansions in the Loire Valley.
