Castle Clos Lucé

Local name: Château du Clos Lucé

The Clos Luce Palace is a Renaissance residence on the outskirts of Amboise. It is connected to the main castle via an underground tunnel. It is a place where Leonardo da Vinci spent the last 3 years of his life. Currently, the palace has a museum presenting models of machines designed by the most famous artist of the Renaissance.

The palace was built in the 15th century. He belonged to King Charles VIII, who offered it to his wife Anna Bretońska. Franciszek I also used to mix in it. In 1516 Leonardo da Vinci came to Ambois for his invitation. He devoted his last years of work to the French crown.

The palace was built on the plan of the letter "H" from raw brick, using stone decorative elements. Some of them are of late Gothic character, some refer to the Renaissance. The interiors of the palace have been restored. They were furnished with period equipment. There are also reconstructed wall paintings and covering ceiling beams. The castle is surrounded by a picturesque landscape park.
