Maribo is a historic town on the island of Lolland known for its gothic cathedral and an open-air museum showing the life of local residents in the old days. The city is associated with the figure of St. Bridget, foundress of the Brigid Order.

The beginnings of the town are related to the activity of the Brigid Sisters' order. Their monastery was established here in 1416 and has survived for a little over 100 years. It was liquidated during the Reformation. Today, the ruins of the Maribo Monastery are among the city's most important monuments.

The former monastery church, now known as the Cathedral of Maribo, has also survived to our times. It is a gothic brick building with a renaissance interior design. The remains of the former convent, including architectural elements, a baptismal font and works of religious art, can be seen at the Diocesan Museum in Maribo.

Among the attractions of Maribo is also the only open-air museum on the island of Lolland. Here you can see what the life of the inhabitants of these areas looked like in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. A popular family attraction is the Knuthenborg Safari Park, where they live, among others. zebras, antelopes, giraffes, rhinoceros and even Siberian tigers.

The surroundings of Maribo are very picturesque. There are two lakes here, which are part of a nature park with numerous nature paths. You can also go boating and canoeing on the lakes.
