Haderslev is a town with roots dating back to the Middle Ages. Currently, it is an industrial center, but a lot of historic buildings have been preserved in the center.
The city probably existed already in the times of the Vikings, but it was officially granted city rights in the 13th century. The exhibitions at the Sønderjylland Museum of Archeology, which is the main attraction of Haderslev, tell about the earliest times of the settlement of this area.
In the city center, near the cathedral, there is a quarter with the oldest residential buildings in the city. There are houses that date back to 1400, narrow cobbled streets and some interesting churches. The most famous is the Church of Gl. Haderslev and the Church of Duke Hans.
The location of the city on the Haderslev fjord meant that since the Middle Ages there was a commercial port here. Currently, there is a northern marina, where yachts and tourist boats enter. You can also go on a cruise on the Helene boat. On the shore of the fjord there are recreational areas and areas for inline skating and skateboarding, including the StreetDome, a built-in dome surrounded by inline skating lanes.
