Poreč is one of the most important tourist resorts of Istria. Tourists and holiday makers are attracted by numerous, well-organized beaches, the picturesque old town and the fame of the place where you can enjoy the most beautiful sunsets in Croatia.

The history of Poreč is long and very rich. Roman and Byzantine rule, as well as the prolonged rule of Venice, left their mark on the city. The most important monument here is the Euphrasius Basilica, built in the 6th century and inscribed on the UNESCO list, in which relics of St. Maura, patron of the city. This Byzantine building impresses not only with its block, but also with magnificent mosaics. In the neighboring Bishop's Palace there is the Museum of Sacred Art, which presents, among others fragments of Roman and Byzantine floor mosaics found throughout the city.

Around the Basilica there is a small, compact and very picturesque Old Town. They are surrounded by the remains of defensive walls with two massive towers, and the narrow streets with stone houses are simply made for walks. An interesting place is also the former Franciscan church, which was the seat of the Istrian Parliament. After this period, rich wall and ceiling decorations and floor mosaics remained in it.

There are well-developed beaches in Poreč and neighboring towns. Most of them are covered with gravel and stones, but you can also find sandy fragments. Due to the calm sea, they are good for kayaking or pontoons, and the rocky bottom and considerable depth at a short distance from the shore is conducive to diving. From the beaches you can also watch the sunsets, where in good weather, on the horizon is the coastline of Italy.
