Orselina is a tourist town situated on the slopes of Mount Cardada on Lake Maggiore. It offers great views, many possibilities for mountain excursions, as well as excellent cuisine with many Italian influences.
The village developed on the outskirts of Locarno, situated lower on the shores of Lake Maggiore. The biggest attraction of Orselina is the sanctuary of Madonna del Sasso, situated on a hill overlooking the lake. It was established in the second half of the 15th century and is a famous pilgrimage site. It can be reached by the Locarno-Madonna del Sasso cable car, which has been in operation since 1906. The sanctuary also houses the Casa del Padre Museum.
The mountain Cardada rises above Orselina, which can be reached by the Orselina-Cardada cable car. There is an observation deck and a restaurant, and the views cover Locarno and the northern part of Lake Maggiore with its surrounding mountains.
