The botanical garden is located on the west shore of Lake Maggiore in Pallanza. It was founded in 1931-1940 by a Scot, Neil Boyd McEacharn, who bought an existing villa and neighboring estates. Today, the gardens have almost 20,000 species of plants, representing over 3,000 species, located along 7 km of walking paths.
