Kandersteg is a holiday village in the Bernese Alps and a center of classic skiing. In winter, the bottom of the valley and the terraces of the surrounding slopes are cut with cross-country skiing trails. In summer, the surrounding peaks, lakes and valleys are perfect for hiking.

The village is situated at the bottom of a valley with a beautiful view of the Blümlisalphorn peak, which is 3,661 meters above sea level. It has retained its alpine village character with numerous wooden buildings. Many of them now house guesthouses and holiday apartments for rent. The village is surrounded by vast meadows where herds of cows graze even today.

In summer, Kandersteg is the center of active tourism. There are several hundred kilometers of hiking trails in the area that lead both through the valleys and to the peaks and passes towering above them. Lake Oeschinensee is a popular excursion destination and can be reached via the Oeschinensee gondola and hiking trails. There are walking areas, viewpoints and a summer toboggan run by the lake. Tourists also go to the Tschingellochtighorn Summit, and there are via ferrata routes in the area, including the spectacular Allmenalp.

In winter, the Kandersteg region offers mainly cross-country skiing attractions. There is also an artificial ice rink and prepared routes for winter hiking in the mountains, including the use of snowshoes.
