Torroella de Montgrí is a historic town close to the Mediterranean coast. Its part is the resort of L'Estartit with a sandy beach as well as hotels and holiday apartments.
In the past, Torroella de Montgrí was located on the shore, but its declining level and the recession of water have meant that today the historic center is about 6 km inland. The seaside resort of L'Estartit, belonging to the city, but creating a separate district with a different style, grew up on the coast.
The Old Town of Torroella de Montgrí has traditional buildings, narrow streets and colorful houses. There are many restaurants and bars, as well as souvenir and handicraft shops. Fragments of the city walls with the St. Catherine and the tower of Les Bruixes, as well as the gothic church of Sant Genis. The greatest attraction of Torroella de Montgrí is the 13th century Montgri Castle standing on a hill.
