Getxo is a resort town on the Bay of Biscay. There are many beautiful sandy beaches in the area. The seaside, tourist part of the town has a lot of preserved buildings from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Tourists coming to Getxo can spend time on various water activities. Sailing and surfing are popular sports here. Sightseeing and diving cruises are also organized from the local port. The surrounding beaches are wide and sandy. The most famous are Ereaga Beach and Arrigunaga Beach.
The social and entertainment life in Getxo is concentrated around the Old Port, which is close to the Ereaga beach. Picturesque buildings, narrow streets and the friendly atmosphere of the port city are a good setting for the local restaurants and bars. Also nearby is a popular attraction, the Aquarium of the El Abra complex.
In the southern part of the city you can also see many nice villas from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and the Galleries of Punta Begoña, built in 1919, a stylized continuation of the medieval city walls with numerous columns, niches and terraces.
