Palace of the Magdalena
Local name: Palacio de la Magdalena
The majestic de la Magdalena palace has been considered a historical monument since 1982. The International University of Menéndez Pelayo organizes academic classes in the building. Additionally, various types of conferences are held on its premises. The palace stables are currently used as dormitories for students of summer courses. The palace is also used for outdoor photography for the production of the Grand Hotel series. In the reception halls of the palace there are paintings by painters such as Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida, Luis Benedito or Fernando Alvarez Sotomayor.
The palace was built at the beginning of the 20th century in a combination of English and French styles with elements characteristic of the region. The outer walls are covered with stone slate. The facility has an entrance from both the south and the north. It was originally the summer residence of the royal family. The architectural style of the palace stables resembles a typical English village.
