Ribeiro Frio is a small town in Madeira that is an important center of tourism. Popular hiking trails lead from here, incl. the Balcoes viewpoint, and the village is also known for its trout farming.
The advantage and greatest attraction of Ribeiro Frio is its location among green forests growing on steep mountain slopes. They can be admired from the magnificent Balcoes vantage point. Take the PR11 Vereda dos Balcoes, a hiking path through lush forests. From the village, you can also go on a trip along the PR10 Levada to Furado route.
In Ribeiro Frio itself you can visit a fish farm. They are kept in special ponds with locks and can flow into pools that match their size. The trout bred here have an unusual coloration. There is also an Ecological Education Center in the village, which provides knowledge about the local forests.
