The Library of the University of Warsaw, known as BUW or New BUW, has been operating since 1816. Currently, the collection counts more than 3 million books, journals, special and didactic collections. Since 1999 the institution is housed in a modern building with an area of 64 thousand square meters. m2. Attention is drawn to the various forms of recordings of cultural works on its facade such as musical and mathematical notation and inscriptions in classical languages.
On the roof of the library there is a 1 hectare garden, one of the largest in Europe. It was built of two parts connected by a stream. In the upper part there are so-called. garden gold, green, silver and carmine. Each of them is different from the other form, color and odor. In the lower part, covered with bushes and vines, there is a stocked pond where ducks live. You can also admire the granite sculptures by Ryszard Stryjecki.
