Located in the center of Warsaw, Krakowskie Przedmieście Street is one of the most beautiful places in the capital. A walk along this part of the Royal Route lets to explore a significant piece of Warsaw history. In the past, it was a route leading to Cracow. Nowadays, it passes near many monumental buildings with wonderful architecture and also numerous monuments.
The construction of Krakowskie Przedmieście started in the 14th century. It is 1100m in length and leads from Castle Square to the Nicolaus Copernicus Monument. Apart from many impressive tenement houses, interesting places that can be seen between those two locations are palaces (Potocki family, Wessel family, Presidential), churches (Saint Anna, Nuns of the Visitation, Assumption of the Virgin Mary) and monuments (priest cardinal Stefan Wyszyński, priest Jan Twardowski, Józef Poniatowski).Krakowskie Przedmieście was entered in the register of objects of cultural heritage in 1965. Less than 30 years later the entire Royal Route became a historic monument.Less
