Church of The Lord's Ascension

Local name: Cerkiew Wniebowstąpienia Pańskiego

Church of the Ascension in Ulucz was established in the years 1510 - 1517 and for a long time was considered the oldest in Poland. Here, you can admire the beautiful wooden architecture and sacred objects such as the presbytery, pastophory and kryryls.

According to local legend, the church was originally to be built at the foot of the Dębnik hill, in the place where now stands a stone chapel. However, after the construction materials were taken away, they were not here the next day. They were found on the hill. The situation repeated several times, each time an unknown force transferred all the building material to the top of Dębnik. This was considered a sign from heaven. The church was finally built on the top of the Dębnik hill above the San Valley to commemorate those events.

The temple is a branch of the Museum of Folk Architecture in Sanok. A plaque in front of the church is placed in honor of the composer, born in Ulucz, priest Michał WerBYKI - author of the national anthem of Ukraine.
