3 Maja Street

Local name: Ulica 3 Maja

Street May 3 is the main pedestrian street of Sanok. It is located near the market and is built with tenement houses from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. There is a famous Szwejka's bench here. On the ground floor of the houses there are numerous shops and cafes and restaurants.

Street May 3 was a route connecting Castle with Market Square. In the 19th and early 20th century, it was inhabited by the Jewish population. Most of the tenements here are of historic character. Their decorated façades present an eclectic and neo-classical style.

The street has been described in the novel by Jaroslaw Hague "The Adventures of the Good Soldier Sawyer". It is located on the Szveka Route, and a nice Czech warrior has his monument here in the form of a bench. She sits on her puffing on her favorite pipe. After renovation at the beginning of the 21st century on May 3, it became a promenade with benches and restaurants and cafes.
