The market in Sanok is located on a hill above the San Valley. It is surrounded by tenement houses from the 19th and 20th centuries. The most impressive building is the former town hall built in a style combining features of neo-Romanism and neo-Gothic. There is a monument to Zdzisław Beksiński in the Market Square.
The market in its current form was marked out in the nineteenth century by the Austrian authorities. It replaced the market square from the time of the location. Due to numerous fires, which until the nineteenth century regularly haunted Sanok from the original buildings of the Market Square nothing remained. Tenements that can be seen today come from the nineteenth and early twentieth century. They are multi-story buildings with classicist or eclectic facades.
Of these, the wide pink facade of the former town hall stands out. It was built at the turn of the century. The author of the design was Władysław Beksiński, a city architect, and privately grandfather of Zdzisław Beksiński. The famous painter and graphic artist born in Sanok has his place of commemoration on the market. In 2012, a monument was erected here.
