Grand Theatre in Poznań is an opera and ballet theater which operates since 1910. It is located in the neoclassical building from the beginning of the 20th century with a figure of Pegasus on the tympanum. The monumental facade leads to the richly decorated foyer and opera hall. The fountain symbolizing a source which was created by Pegasus hoofs is placed in front of the building. The picturesque park surrounds the theatre.
The building of the theatre was designed at the beginning of the 20th century by Munich architect Max Littman. Its facade consists mostly of the huge column portico with triangle tympanum with a figure of Pegasus. The sculptures symbolizing Lyric and Drama were put near the entrance stairs. The interior consist of the opera hall with a huge crystal chandelier and carved boxes. The foyer decorated with classicist columns leads to the hall.Grand Theatre in Poznań is one of the most important opera and ballet stages in Poland. Its spectacles get important awards. For instance, in 2014 "Portrait" by Mieczysław Wajneberg was rewarded with Jan Kiepura Theatrical Musical Prize for the best spectacle.Less
