The Old Zoo in Poznań is the oldest and still operating zoological garden in Poland. Because of its small area, only little animal species can be watched here, however, the exception is the largest reptile in the world - Komodo dragon - which can be admired in the Pavilion of Poikilotherms. The zoo also consists of a carousel, line park, and quad rental.
Animals inhabiting the zoo are mostly small exotic species such as lemurs, black swans, rheas, and farm animals: goats, donkeys, sheep or ponies which can be ridden on. Apart from that, numerous reptiles, amphibians, and fish can be watched here. The zoo organizes a lot of attractions such as feeding shows or meetings with zookeepers. The origins of the zoo are especially interesting. In the second half of the 19th century, a group of bowling club members came up with an idea to give the club president animals on his birthday. Gifts contained pig, ram, squirrel, peacock, duck, trained bear, and monkey, among others. The gifted animals were the first inhabitants of the today's facility.Less
