Poznań Palm House

Local name: Palmiarnia Poznańska

The Poznań Palm House is one of the oldest objects of that type in Europe. It consists of the huge aquarium and several thousand plant species including the ones that can only be found in tropical and subtropical areas. Other attractions are cafe and souvenir shop.

The vegetation is located in ten exhibit pavilions which imitate the natural conditions in which it lives. The Palm House is overgrown with around 17 000 plant species. It has 37 tanks inhabited by around 170 fish species from around the world. 40 water plant species can also be admired there.

The object was build in the area of the current Wilson's Park at the beginning of the 20th century. In the 1920s, the first Polish aquarium was built there. The Palm House was heavily damaged during World War II. In 1945 the reconstruction started and one year later almost all of the pavilions were opened.
