Castle Hill

Local name: Góra Zamkowa

Castle Hill, also known as Castle Hill, is a small elevation lying in the forks of the rivers Olza and Bobrówka. Due to its favorable location and steep slopes, which give it a defensive character, the first settlement was built in the 5th century. You can now visit the historic medieval buildings and the picturesque park.

In the Zamkowa Castle, attention is paid primarily to the 12th-century rotunda of Sts. Nicholas and St. Waclaw, the oldest brick building in the whole of Silesia. It is built in a relatively rare Roman style in Poland. According to the instructions, it was placed in place of a former pagan temple in which the goddess Marzanna was worshiped.

Also worth seeing are the restored stone tower of the Final Defense and the Piast Tower, remnants of the castle of the princes of Cieszyn. Near the other is the longest in Europe, a 65 meter ice tunnel, hollowed in Castle Hill.
