The stone tower was erected in the 13th century and was one of the defensive structures of the upper castle. The object was a refuge for defending fortifications, after the enemy had broken through the embankments. It contained weapons and food. The tower housed a prison and a watchtower.
The tower was 24 m high and was built in the form of a cylinder with a diameter of 12 m. The thickness of the walls was 4 m. It was crowned with a wooden conical roof. The usable area of the Tower's interior was about 4 m2.
During the 14th century, during the expansion of the castle, the tower was incorporated into the walls, becoming one of the corner towers.
Between 2001 and 2002 archaeological works were carried out and the original look of the tower was restored. The ruins of a castle kitchen dating from the 16th century deserve to be mentioned.
